After refreshing marketing materials and experiencing success in building awareness at travel shows and on social media, Prestonsburg Tourism was ready to carry their brand story through a redesigned website. This was the next step in making their unified marketing approach truly cohesive.
Prestonsburg Tourism once again partnered with P&P to develop a site that — in addition to showcasing the community’s beauty and adventures — would entice visitors to book hotels, encourage group tour managers to complete requests for proposal, and increase sign-ups for their e-newsletter.
In order to meet Prestonsburg’s goals, we wanted to present site visitors in these audience categories with direct calls to action right away. A tab system on the home page directs people to their appropriate place: explore on your own if you’re planning a vacation; check out group tours available if you’re a tour manager; or sign up for the e-mail newsletter to get regular updates in your inbox.
Sliders for adventures and events make it easy for visitors to choose what they’re interested in, and featured blog posts on the home page draw users to in-depth articles about what they can find in Prestonsburg and eastern Kentucky. Hotel and motel listings send visitors directly to the accommodation’s website for easy booking.
Once visitors sign up for the e-newsletter, we developed a five-part e-mail series that automatically delivers to new subscribers. Each week, they will receive an email showcasing different areas of interest — outdoor adventure, entertainment, local history, excursions and downtown Prestonsburg. Each e-mail leads the subscriber back to the website for blog articles or details about specific attractions.

We were eager to carry the “Expect the Unexpected” brand message we developed for Prestonsburg’s print materials through to the website. A crisp, white background features tones of gold, red, blue and green inspired by Prestonsburg’s natural beauty. The site prominently features images of area adventures, like biking and kayaking, and attractions, like the gorgeous mountaintop StoneCrest Golf Course and the Mountain Arts Center. Video is incorporated wherever possible, giving visitors a closer look at area highlights such as Sugarcamp Mountain Trails and the Billie Jean Osborne Kentucky Opry.
