Mt. Sterling (P&P’s hometown!) is a vibrant, iconic Kentucky city. Founded in 1792 and home to the longest-running festival in the state — Court Days — this community is steeped in tradition and has made historic preservation a top priority. But through that preservation has emerged a strong sense of creativity and artistic influence. Edison lights strung across city streets bring life to downtown at night; art installations like the mural at Main Street Park and Umbrella Alley add a whimsical vibe.
While all of this was clear when you walked the streets of Mt. Sterling yourself, it was not clear in the materials used to draw new visitors to the area. So Mt. Sterling Tourism partnered with P&P to craft a brand story, travel guide and website that would entice people to experience the uniqueness of this community.
After completing P&P’s BR&ND BUILDER, it was clear there are two characteristics of Mt. Sterling that draw people to it — its history and its creativity. We discovered right away that the town’s uniqueness lies in this juxtaposition of stoic and fun, classic and vibrant. It’s the place where old becomes bold. And that’s the story we set out to tell.
“P&P’s team of creative professionals provides excellent work that is fresh and innovative. Their knowledge and expertise eased my worries about the complexity of the project and their inventive approach presents Mt. Sterling in the best possible way. I feel excited and more than pleased with how they took my vision and made it a reality.”tracy pearce

We wanted Mt. Sterling’s visual brand to be as bright and colorful as the community. Illustrated typography throughout the travel guide and website was inspired by bold colors and circular shapes in Main Street Park’s tree mural, as well as vibrant exterior hues and sharp lines of the community art center. The travel guide highlights the community’s top eight attractions, surrounded by photos that put art and community events center stage.
To illustrate the old-becomes-bold tagline visually on the website, dramatic hover effects take images from black and white to color on the home page. A simple navigation directs visitors to what they can see & do, eat and where they can stay while in Mt. Sterling. And an events slider highlights upcoming activities so visitors can plan their trip.
Let’s get started.
