When Lake Cumberland Tourism engaged with P&P in 2018, the team was ready for its brand to reflect its personality. Casual and cutting-edge. Sophisticated. Dependable. Challenged with often having to explain the symbol in their existing logo, they wanted something clear and direct. They desired their marketing to be an extension of the experience visitors have when they come to Somerset-Pulaski County — to have the wow factor guests describe in the visitor center and throughout the area.
We kicked the project off with Brand Builder, drawing out exactly what that wow factor looks like for visitors when they come to Somerset-Pulaski County and who those visitors are. To reflect this throughout Lake Cumberland Tourism’s annual marketing strategy — travel guide, advertising, website and tradeshow materials — we determined this required larger, more engaging photos, a more modern content management system, clean lines and bright colors, and dropping the symbol from the existing logo and simply listing the destination.
The best part of working with P&P? All of it. We needed a fresh, cohesive look and marketing experts with whom we could easily communicate. We appreciate their timeliness, patience and honesty, and value their desire to be upfront with feedback while also respecting our vision and goals. You don’t have to go far to be inspired by Lake Cumberland — the imagery alone makes you want to be on the water or in one of Somerset-Pulaski County’s many attractions. So we made sure in every application large images were the focus. We updated the color palette to feature a rich aqua green, navy and coral for a more bright, nautical look. A diamond pattern was adopted as a unique way to bring in smaller images while also adding clean, dramatic lines.
All of this was adopted into a new, user-friendly WordPress CMS website, with a home page content structure driven by what people are engaging with most on their website — accommodations, events and dining experiences. Opportunities to join Lake Cumberland Tourism’s e-mail list are available on every page, and websites for attractions and accommodations are easily accessed from all listings, helping visitors plan their stay with ease.
